Fillmore County Home
Habitat has come to Fillmore County!
Habitat for Humanity’s Mission:
Habitat for Humanity-Winona County is a non-profit, ecumenical grassroots Christian ministry. Its primary goal is to eliminate sub-standard housing and homelessness by partnering with community members to construct simple, decent and affordable homes. To help achieve that goal, Habitat for Humanity-Winona County also operates the Habitat ReStore which provides all community members the opportunity to improve their current living conditions affordably by purchasing discounted building materials and home furnishings.
The Flood of August, 2007
The flood brought about many changes for the city of Rushford. Homes and businesses went under water, people were left without a roof, and lives were affected forever. However, with such destruction and loss comes the chance for great things to blossom. The community saw neighbors helping neighbors, people from outside the town come in to help, all in a widespread effort to help Rushford.
Habitat and the Rushford Rebuilding Effort
While the recovery effort has been remarkable thus far, there is still a long way to go. While people can clearly see how much assistance is needed immediately after such an event, Habitat understands that the housing need continues today and will persist into the future. Habitat would like to be a part of the long term recovery effort in Rushford. Our goal is to form a sustainable network through which Habitat may operate through to build homes with partner families and community members.
Building a Habitat Home
In order to build a Habitat home, it takes assistance from many people. This includes construction volunteers, people behind the scenes organizing and steering, individual donors, companies or persons who donate services and materials, as well as many others. Building a Habitat home is truly an inclusive community and greater area effort.
